As the master of all things in a galaxy far, far away, Dave Filoni has worked on some of the biggest shows in the Star Wars universe, including The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka. Now, the filmmaker will take on a new role at Lucasfilm: chief creative officer.

The promotion was revealed in Vanity Fair interview story, confirming that the Ahsoka creator will be much more involved in early development. He will work alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and head of development Carrie Beck, while still holding the title of executive vice president that he received in 2020.

“In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways,” said Filoni. “In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on. When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase.”

“I’m not telling people what to do,” he added. “But I do feel I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost.”

The new appointment doesn’t come as a surprise, considering Filoni’s expertise in the field. On top of co-creating Star Wars Rebels, he also collaborated closely with George Lucas on animated series The Clone Wars, and would later breathe life into them in the live-action Ahsoka. In fact, Filoni is looking to explore a second season of the Disney+ show, which starred Rosario Dawson as the grown-up version of the titular Jedi.

Down the line, fans can expect more stories within the Star Wars universe. The franchise is gearing up for a grand return to form, with the live-action Skeleton Crew series, The Acolyte, a thriller set in the distant past, and Andor Season 2 due to hit Disney+ soon. On the big screen, there are films in the pipeline by James Mangold, Taika Waititi, Shawn Levy and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the last of which sees the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey.
