‘Star Wars: Bounty Hunter’ Gets Remaster, Includes Boba Fett Skin

The year is 2002, and Star Wars: Attack of the Clones was released just months ago. You hear about a new game being released, and as a fan who enjoyed Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett’s introduction to the franchise, you decide to play Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, following the character’s exploits. Being a dedicated Star Wars fan, you notice a peculiar oddity in the game — a low-resolution textured message written in Aurebesh.

It reads, Cash in all bounties to play as Boba. And your mind is blown, because Boba Fett, Jango Fett’s son and one of the most iconic Star Wars characters, gets to be playable? Now that, is news. So you try everything to unlock that feature, but even cashing in all bounties and hitting 100% on the game yields nothing.

It stays that way for a long time, until 22 years later in 2024, a Star Wars: Bounty Hunter remaster is announced, and this time, fixing its predecessor’s error, you do get to play as Boba Fett after all. This time, instead of playing it on a PlayStation 2, or 4, the game is now available on the PlayStation 5. While the game has been available on the PS4 for a long time, it has not been remastered with additional features until now.

Here’s hoping developer Aspyr can redeem themselves after the disastrous remaster of the Battlefront Classic Collection, which fans heavily critiqued after being plagued by bugs and crashes at launch.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter gets a modern upgrade, taking full advantage of the DualSense wireless controller technology. When you equip a weapon, the console’s integrated adaptive triggers make each weapon feel unique, and voice comms will play over the controller’s speakers, immersing you in the moment. Even the light bar on the console represents Jango’s health bar, so you’ll know if you need to heal up.

With the game’s maps rendered in even more depth and texture, dynamic lighting, and a new flashlight feature, there’s never been as good an opportunity to relive the game once more, or discover it for the first time.

To unlock Boba Fett’s skin, you’ll have to do exactly what was written on that wall at the time: cash in all bounties to play as Boba, and the skin will automatically unlock. It’s likely been two decades since you’ve played the game. Perhaps you’re thinking of going back, just to claim your final bounty. It feels like a payoff you didn’t know you needed.

The Star Wars: Bounty Hunter remaster releases on 1 August 2024 on the PS5 and PS4.
