The hype for Spidey’s return to the big screen is in full swing, as the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to set new records. After dethroning reigning champion Deadpool & Wolverine with 718 million views in 24 hours, it has now crossed the 1.1 billion mark, becoming the first film trailer ever to do so.

As Variety reports, the figures come from data tracker WaveMetrix – YouTube viewership sits at 27 million currently – and certainly bode well for the sequel’s box office haul. The forthcoming superhero adventure took only eight hours to make trailer history, racking in 373 million views to top the 24-hour records of both 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home (355.5 million views) and Deadpool & Wolverine (365 million views). Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, in comparison, saw 475 million views within the same window; that, too, has been shattered.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Spider-Man: Brand New Day reunites Tom Holland’s titular web-slinger with Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds. Franchise newcomers include Sadie Sink, who plays an undisclosed role but is third billing on the cast list, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut, and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers wrote the script, while executive producers Louis D’Esposito and David Cain also serve as producers, alongside Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor.

“Following Dr. Stephen Strange’s spell at the end of the film Spider-Man: No Way Home, the world has forgotten that Peter Parker exists,” reads its official snyopsis. “Four years later, Parker anonymously protects New York City as the hero Spider-Man. While investigating a series of crimes, he uncovers a larger mystery and faces the consequences of his past.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day crawls into theatres on 31 July.
