The land of Far Far Away will soon welcome Saturday Night Live star Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo, of Superman (2025) fame, as the two actors have been cast in Shrek 5 as Shrek and Fiona’s sons, Fergus and Farkle.

The update comes by way of the DreamWorks Animation project’s Instagram account, alongside a caption that reads, “The Brogres have entered the chat”. In it, Hernández and Gisondo are seen texting each other about their roles, with the former sharing a photo of himself in green body paint and writing, “I might have gone a bit overboard.”
Releasing in theatres on 30 June 2027 after a second delay, the sequel stars the returning voices of Mike Myers (Austin Powers franchise), Eddie Murphy (Beverly Hills Cop), and Cameron Diaz (Charlie’s Angels) as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, respectively. Joining Fergus and Farkle is Felicia, daughter of the ogre couple, played by Zendaya (Euphoria).
Conrad Vernon, whose directing credits include Shrek 2 and Madagascar 2, and Walt Dohrn are helming the animated pic, with Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri — the head honcho of Illumination, responsible for the Despicable Me and Minions franchises — serving as producers. It will also mark the first mainline entry in the series since 2010’s Shrek Forever After, which was produced by Shay. Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru) is set to co-direct.

Story details for Shrek 5 remain under wraps, but it won’t be the only entry set in Far Far Away that fans can look forward to. A Donkey spin-off was previously announced for a 2028 release, with production set to begin only after the fifth instalment wraps.
