Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Powered Up For One-Handed Use

Smartphones and tablets come with different features to meet their respective demands, but it’s in the in-between that Samsung finds a solution. The company’s Galaxy Z Fold series has always sought to combine the best features of both worlds, and its newest addition, the Fold 4, doesn’t stray too much from this approach.

Announced during August’s Samsung Unpacked 2022 event, the device is touted to be the thinnest and lightest member of the family to date, with a focus on delivering more comfortable one-hand use and improved productivity while on the move. It weighs 263 grams (down from the 271 grams), measures 130mm x 155 x 6.3mm when unfolded, and features a 7.6-inch display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, a 2,176 x 1,812 resolution, and a 21.6: 18 aspect ratio.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and Adreno 730 chipset under the hood, which marks an upgrade over the Snapdragon 888 used in the Galaxy Fold 3. Mobile photography has also been improved, with the rear set-up bringing a 50MP wide-angle, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 30 times Space Zoom (a combination of 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom) to the fold (hah). By comparison, its predecessor had a 12MP ultrawide, 12MP wide-angle, and a 12MP telephoto camera.

The Flex mode, an exclusive feature to Samsung’s foldable devices that splits the screen into two separate usable touch surfaces, now has more to offer as well. Apart from enjoying a hands-free viewing experience, users can switch or launch apps instantly from the taskbar — similar to what the interface on a PC allows — and use the Flex Mode touchpad to control various settings like video playback, which is reminiscent of the Touch Bar functionalities on Apple’s MacBook laptops.

Other notable features of the phone include a 4,400mAh battery, an IPX8 water resistance rating, the Nightography feature, and an unfold-and-fold resistance of over 200,000 times. It’s also the only foldable in Samsung’s 2022 line-up to boast stylus support: where the S Pen Pro is compatible with other devices, the S Pen Fold Edition is specially tailored for the Fold 3 and 4.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be available in Phantom Black, Graygreen, and Beige when it launches on 2 September, with pre-orders going live starting today, 10 August 2022. The 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage iteration retails for S$2,398, while the 12GB / 512GB configuration is priced at S$2,578. Interested parties may also opt for a 1TB version (S$2,938) and Burgundy colour variation online, Lazada, Shopee and/or Amazon Singapore.
