“Sunshine daisies, butter mellow, turn this stupid, fat rat yellow!”
That’s the first spell we see Ron Weasley attempt on the Hogwarts Express, as a wide-eyed, baby-faced Harry stares on with the appropriate amount of awe, while Hermione considers him with a healthy dose of skepticism. Well warranted, because the spell doesn’t do much, save for a glowy zap. His rat, Scabbers, remains pointedly brown.
While he’s always had to contend with the ever eclipsing fame of his best friend, Harry “The Boy Who Lived” Potter and the intimidatingly impressive intelligence of his future wife, Hermione “The Brightest Witch of Her Age” Granger, Ron’s as much an indispensable member of Rowling’s Golden Trio as the other two — with his brief, oft-downplayed, spurts of creative problem-solving (see: using the basilisk’s fang to destroy a horcrux in Deathly Hallows), staunch loyalty and generally easy-going manner.
It’s been years since we saw him, Harry and Hermione to the end of their journey in the Harry Potter series, but they’ll always have a special place in our hearts. And they can now have a special place in our display cabinets, with Good Smile Company’s Wizarding World Nendoroids. Ron looks absolutely adorable with two face plates — one sporting a standard grin and another sporting a grimace that says, “Why spiders? Why couldn’t it be ‘follow the butterflies’?”
He’ll also come with a broomstick — because he’s a brilliant keeper in Quidditch — a broken wand and howler — because RONALD WEASLEY HOW DARE YOU STEAL THAT CAR — and his pet rat Scabbers — which… isn’t so cute once you remember that’s actually Peter Pettigrew.
Nevertheless, he’s a squish-worthy addition to any fan’s collection and will look all the better with Harry, who’s also available on Good Smile’s website for pre-order, and Hermione, who isn’t available yet but will be eventually. Pre-orders on the Good Smile online shop for Harry and Ron will close on December 13, 2018 and January 9, 2019 respectively, and will score you an exclusive Gryffindor rubber stand, for all you brave lions out there.
