This came out of nowhere but Return to Monkey Island, the long-awaited follow-up to the legendary Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge is coming in 2022!
The announcement was made with a teaser trailer. The new game will be developed by Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox in collaboration with Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games.
Sure, there have been other sequels to the Monkey Island games, The Curse of Monkey Island (1997), Escape from Monkey Island (2000) and Tales of Monkey Island (2009), but they were sequels not done by Ron Gilbert himself.
This latest entry is clearly labelled as “A Game by Ron Gilbert”, so we are finally getting a direct sequel to the original two games that started it all. Can’t wait!
We’ll be keeping a close watch on the official site in the meantime.
