Another childhood classic is about to be turned into nightmare fuel in the form of the upcoming horror movie Pinocchio: Unstrung, which comes courtesy of the creators of the Twisted Childhood Universe, also known as the Poohniverse, the minds behind 2023’s Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey and its 2024 sequel.

Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield and producer Scott Jeffrey, the duo behind the Poohniverse, teased the upcoming film with not only some first looks at the creepy, practically made Pinocchio doll, but also details on the film’s cast via an interview with Variety. Robert Englund, best known for his role as slasher horror icon Freddy Krueger, is set to join the cast alongside Richard Brake (R.I.P.D.2: Rise of the Damned, Barbarian) as Geppetto.
Via a post on X/Twitter, the production team also showed off the Pinocchio puppet in action, letting fans bask in all its unsettling glory. The animatronic was created by special effects artist Todd Masters, who previously worked on effects for the Child’s Play series and Dune: Part Two.
Frake-Waterfield will be directing the upcoming film while simultaneously working to expand The Twisted Childhood Universe, which is set to include the likes of Peter Pan, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, all of which will undoubtedly feature warped versions of the beloved childhood icons, with even an Avengers-esque crossover planned for 2025 titled Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.
No release date has been revealed for Pinocchio: Unstrung.
