‘Overwatch 2’ X ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Crossover Gets Stylish Trailer With New Skins

Fans got a tantalising peek at Overwatch 2‘s Cowboy Bebop crossover event as part of the game’s Season 9 announcement, but boy, are hype levels through the roof with its official debut. The collaboration trailer is a glorious, stylish tribute to the anime’s iconic opening sequence, nailing the artistic beats and flair of the original to the jazzy tones of Yoko Kanno’s “Tank”.

In it, Cassidy takes the stage as everyone’s favourite bounty hunter Spike Spiegel, with Ashe stepping into the role of resident femme fatale Faye Valentine. Mauga is the former cop Jet Black, joined by Wrecking Ball as Ein and Sombra as Ed. It looks to be a good fit, with a lot of attention going into these Legendary skins — Cassidy’s gun takes after Spike’s Swordfish vessel, while Ashe can turn B.O.B into Faye’s ship.

Alongside the cosmetics, the free-to-play hero shooter will introduce new themed sprays, highlight intros, emotes. Players can also expect to hear music from the anime in Overwatch 2 when its Cowboy Bebop crossover event kicks off on 12 March.

While players will be able to earn the themed Wrecking Ball skin for free, the bigger question would be the cost of these exclusive skins. This marks the second anime-themed foray for the game, with the first being a One Punch Man collaboration. More recently, its tie-in with popular K-pop girl group Le Sserafim saw a music video release featuring Tracer, D.va, Kiriko, Sombra, and Brigette as idols, a K-pop-themed capture-the-flag-style game mode, new dance emotes, limited-time skins, and more.

Season 9 of Overwatch 2 will begin next week.
