Original ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Star Orlando Bloom Open To Reprising Legolas Role

Orlando Bloom, who starred in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy as the iconic bow-wielding Elf Legolas, has expressed interest in returning for Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

In an interview with Variety, Bloom spoke with director Andy Serkis about the upcoming Lord of the Rings movies and discussed returning to the Tolkien franchise. The pair addressed concerns about reprising a character that according to series lore, does not age.

Originally playing Legolas when he was 24, the now 47-year-old Bloom is open to using AI to correct his likeness. “Those things are amazing. Yeah. I don’t know how they’d do it. I guess with AI you can do anything these days. But, if (Peter Jackson) says jump, I say, ‘how high?’ I mean, he started my whole career.” Bloom said.

Bloom’s interest marks the third time an original cast member has expressed the willingness to return to the franchise. Sir Ian McKellen, who played the wizard Gandalf, and Viggo Mortensen, who plays Aragorn, are both open to reprising their respective roles for the new movie.

Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set to release in 2026, and will kick off a new live-action movie series. Andy Serkis is set to both direct and reprise his role of Gollum, while Peter Jackson will produce alongside partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
