Obsidian’s Upcoming Fantasy Action-RPG ‘Avowed’ Postponed To 2025

Microsoft has officially rescheduled the release of Obsidian Entertainment‘s highly anticipated RPG, Avowed, to 18 February 2025. This decision follows speculative reports of a delay from its original 2024 launch window. The update was announced via a comprehensive infographic on social media, detailing the revised schedule for all upcoming Xbox games.

The infographic also reaffirmed the on-track releases of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Starfield‘s Shattered Space expansion for later this year. Microsoft cited the need to provide “some breathing room” for players’ game backlogs as a primary reason for the delay. Xbox chief Phil Spencer expressed pride in the Obsidian team’s efforts and emphasized their commitment to ensuring Avowed has the best possible launch.

The Verge journalist Tom Warren previously hinted at this delay, suggesting that the move was designed to avoid the high-traffic period on Xbox Game Pass towards the year’s end. Despite the shift, sources close to the project indicate that Avowed is in “good shape,” and the timing adjustment is mainly to prevent release date clashes with other major titles on the platform, such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

This update underlines Microsoft’s strategic planning in managing its game launch calendar, especially considering the intense competition during the holiday season. Avowed promises an enriching fantasy experience and aims for maximum impact without the congestion of other big releases.
