New Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Poster Released… And It Looks So Familiar

With just a week to the premiere of the much-awaited film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars fans have been treated to a number of new posters.

Rise of Skywalker

But it looks… so familiar…almost..as if we’ve seen it before…

Oh, that’s right!

It looks just like the official poster for Star Wars: Return of The Jedi.

Rise of Skywalker

Or well, Revenge of The Jedi. George Lucas was forced to change the title to ‘Revenge’ because ‘Return’ sounded too lame – but that’s beside the point.

Return of the Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker are the last films in their respective trilogies. It’s a cute play on nostalgia and we think it’s a smart move. Having the last poster of the entire Skywalker saga to replicate the first one really drives home the message that this is the last Skywalker film ever. EVER.

We don’t know about you, but this poster tugged on our heartstrings. It seems like some fans feel the same way too.

The other half of the fans? Well, they think it’s convenient repurposing and laziness. The last film of all the trilogies shared the same look. After comparisons, we do agree that Revenge of the Sith, the last film of the prequel trilogy, does somewhat fit the mould.

It’s also worth noting that the poster used a flipped image of Kylo from the official international poster released for The Rise of Skywalker.

While the plot of The Rise of Skywalker has been kept on the down-low, fans can’t help but come up with their own ideas and theories, like the resurrection and return of Emperor Palpatine for example. This new poster has certainly got the pot brewing again.

They’re pretty interesting theories, but for what it’s worth, we can’t wait to see how J.J. Abrams concludes the Skywalker saga.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres 19 December 2019
