The Ghostbusters animated series will answer the call “soon”, as Sony Pictures Animation offered an exciting update on the show, which will arrive on Netflix shortly. First announced in 2022, the series garnered plenty of excitement, and nostalgia, with the last Ghostbusters animated series ending in the ’90s.
The franchise’s storied history began with the original 1984 Ghostbusters film before it spun off two animated series — the 140-episode The Real Ghostbusters (1986-1991) followed by the 40-episode Extreme Ghostbusters (1997).
Executive producers Jason Reitman (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) and Gil Kenan (Monster House) will helm the show. Reitman said in a recent interview that the series would “navigate an unexplored era and decade of Ghostbusters canon,” and Kenan added, “It’s in what we call full development. Scripts are being written, art is being created, and it’s a great time to be a Ghostbuster.”
The news comes shortly after the release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire earlier in April this year, continuing the hype surrounding the franchise. So grab your proton packs, suit up, and get ready to bust some ghosts, as the animated series lands on Netflix somewhere in the neighborhood.
