Omicron Sucks! Morbius Delayed To April

2022 has taken its first victim. Sony has officially moved the premiere of its next superhero movie, Morbius, to 1 April 2022.

This isn’t Morbius’ first delay. The movie was first set for a July 2020 release before going through multiple cycles of delay. Most recently, the film was pushed to 28 January 2022 from its initial 8 October 2021 release, All the delays were due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, it may come as no surprise that the movie’s sixth delay is a result of the surge in Omicron cases.

The movie sees lead actor Jared Leto play a Biochemist named Michael Morbius. The biochemist later tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease. When his experiment goes wrong, he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead.

Comic book and superhero fans have been waiting for this film since 2020. This is especially since Morbius has also teased a potential connection to another popular comic book character, Venom, who was last seen in the studio’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Fans can also expect to see crossover cameos in the film.

There’s no telling if Sony will be shifting its other movies that are currently slated for 2022. On their slate, the studio has Uncharted and Spider-Man: Into The Multiverse (Part 1) for 18 February and 7 October respectively. Both of which are some of the highly anticipated movie releases of the year.
