Microsoft’s Xbox Teases ‘Doom: The Dark Ages’ & Mystery Studio’s Next Title

Microsoft has announced the return of its Xbox Developer Direct, marking its first video game showcase of 2025, teasing an in-depth look at its upcoming titles releasing this year, alongside a brand new game from a mystery studio.

According to Microsoft’s blog post, the Developer Direct showcase will take place on 23 January at 10 am PT (24 January at 2 am SGT), airing on Xbox’s official channels, with fans able to “get an inside look at a selection of highly anticipated games coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass”.

The showcase will feature four upcoming titles, consisting of id Software’s DOOM: The Dark Ages, the third instalment of the modern DOOM series and prequel to the previous two titles; Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the debut studio’s new turn-based fantasy RPG; Compulsion Games’ South of Midnight, a third-person action-adventure inspired by South American folklore and a brand new game from a mystery studio.

All three revealed games do not currently have release dates, so they will likely be announced during the showcase, alongside possible gameplay deep dives. As for the mystery fourth game, it’s pure speculation at this point, but previously leaked Microsoft documents have alluded to upcoming projects such as Dishonored 3 and a Ghostwire: Tokyo sequel, although the term “brand new” might indicate a completely original IP.

Of course, Microsoft still has two big hitters, The Elder Scrolls VI and Fable in its pipeline, both titles that received a brief trailer (literally just a logo in the case of Elder Scrolls) with no further news after, so a big reveal during the company’s first content showcase of the year might do wonders for viewership.

Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct will air on 23 January at 10 am PT on its official channels.
