Marvel Studios Sets ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ Animated Series For Disney+

Get ready to head back to Wakanda, as a new animated series from the world of Black Panther is in the works. Titled Eyes of Wakanda, the project was teased by Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum at an event to promote the second season of What If…?.

“Throughout Wakandan history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts. This is their story,” reads the official logline, per Marvel. According to a source close to Variety, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler will be involved in the making of the series, which is part of a bigger plan to develop multiple series set in Wakanda.

Not much else is known about the series, but the studio did treat fans to a closer look at X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the new name of Spider-Man: Freshman Year. Footage for the former saw our favourite mutants in action — with a particular focus on Cyclops — while the latter showcased Spidey swinging around in a new proto spider suit.

As for What If…?, Marvel offered a first glimpse of Episode 1, “What If… Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?”, and Episode 2, “What If Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?”. Season 2 debuts on 22 December, with new episodes releasing daily for nine consecutive days.

It’s unclear whether Eyes of Wakanda is the same Black Panther series that was announced in 2021, but if so, Danai Gurira’s Okoye will make an appearance. There are currently no plans to develop a live-action project set in Wakanda for Disney+, as the studio has decided to dial back its slate amidst criticism.
