‘Marcel The Shell With Shoes On’ Is A Stop-Motion Movie About A Shell’s Search For Family

Who knew something so tiny, could make you feel something so big? Before Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp became famous, the duo made goofy stop-motion shorts on YouTube. One that took off was about a little creature named Marcel the Shell, who yes, has shoes on.

The project spurred a number of picture books and rumours of something bigger and better being in the pipeline and now, the ‘something bigger and better’ is here! Meet Marcel The Shell With Shoes On.

Marcel The Shell With Shoes On is a feature-length adaptation of the short that’ll hit screens later on in the year thanks to A24. The synopsis reads:

“Marcel is an adorable one-inch-tall shell who ekes out a colourful existence with his grandmother Connie and their pet lint, Alan. Once part of a sprawling community of shells, they now live alone as the sole survivors of a mysterious tragedy. But when a documentary filmmaker discovers them amongst the clutter of his Airbnb, the short film he posts online brings Marcel millions of passionate fans, as well as unprecedented dangers and new hope at finding his long-lost family. A beloved character gets his big-screen debut in this hilarious and heartwarming story about finding connection in the smallest corners.”
