Directed by the visionary George Miller, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Nico Lathouris, Furiosa takes audiences back to the roots of the titular character. Taylor-Joy, celebrated for her roles in The Queen’s Gambit and The Menu, steps into the shoes of Imperator Furiosa, offering a fresh perspective on her early days.

The narrative unfolds her journey from being taken from her family to joining forces with Immortan Joe and leading the War Boys. Hemsworth’s role hints at a villainous presence, adding intrigue to the wasteland’s brutal landscape.

The trailer, released during CCXP’s panel and now available online, showcases Taylor-Joy’s young Furiosa in a visually stunning, action-packed preview. The storyline seems to focus on her quest to return home, highlighting her battle against Hemsworth’s Dementus and her efforts to protect a child, hinting at Furiosa’s inherent protective nature.

The official description reads:

“As the world falls, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and into the hands of a Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. While two Tyrants war for dominance over the Citadel, Furiosa survives many trials as she plots a way back home through the Wasteland.”

George Miller, at 78, returns with his unmatched filmmaking vigour, collaborating again with Nick Lathouris. Together, they weave an epic narrative in the Mad Max universe, promising the same high-energy excitement as its predecessors.

With its blend of rich storytelling and high-octane action, Furiosa is poised to be a compelling addition to the Mad Max legacy, continuing the saga’s thrilling exploration of survival, rebellion, and redemption in a post-apocalyptic world.

Furiosa revs up in theaters on 24 May 2024.
