‘Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’ Reveals Anime-Styled Middle-earth

The upcoming anime-styled prequel to The Lord of the Rings movies, titled The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, features a first action-packed trailer. This epic narrative, voiced by Brian Cox of Succession fame as the King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, and Gaia Wise as his daughter Héra, unfolds 183 years before the events of the original trilogy.

In this gripping tale, King Helm finds his kingdom under siege by the vengeful Dunlending lord Wulf, voiced by Luke Pasqualino. Wulf’s assault, driven by a thirst for revenge for his father’s death at the hands of Helm, corners his people into the ancient stronghold of Hornburg — destined to become the famed Helm’s Deep.

Amid this crisis in The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, Héra she challenges her father’s dismissive view of her capabilities, asserting her prowess and readiness to fight for their kingdom. She emerges as a courageous leader, rallying the Rohirrim against their formidable foes.

Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, known for Blade Runner: Black Lotus, the film promises a rich expansion of the Tolkien universe. Miranda Otto, who is familiar to fans from the original The Lord of the Rings series as Éowyn, the shieldmaiden of Rohan, narrates the series. The narrative is set to deepen the lore around Rohan’s storied past and the legendary battles that shaped Middle-earth.
