Live-Action ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ Sequel Offers First Looks At Logo

Universal Pictures’ upcoming live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2 movie has taken flight, as the sequel has officially begun filming, with behind-the-scenes images also unveiling its logo.

Dean DeBlois, director and writer of the DreamWorks Animation films as well as the 2025 live-action adaptation, will return to helm the sequel, with the filmmaker sharing a behind-the-scenes image on Instagram of himself on the set of How to Train Your Dragon 2, with his caption reading, “Back in the saddle! Day 1 of principal photography on HTTYD2! The adventure begins…”

Additionally, the official logo for the sequel can also be seen in the same image, printed in red on the production clapperboard. Unsurprisingly, it will follow the same stylised font used by its predecessor, albeit with a new colour scheme and numbering.

The film, which adapts the 2014 animated sequel of the same name, will see the return of familiar faces such as Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nic Parker as Astrid, Gerard Butler as Stoick, and Nick Frost as Gobber. Additionally, Cate Blanchett, who voiced Valka in the animated films, will also return to portray the character for the live-action version, while the film’s villain, Drago, will be played by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, who previously voiced Ragnar the Rock in 2019’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

The original How to Train Your Dragon 2 centred once again on the adventures of Toothless and Hiccup, now five years following the first film, with the duo taking on a ruthless madman who wants to conquer the world with an army of dragons. It’s unclear how closely the live-action film will stick to the original storyline, however, as DeBlois previously stated that the follow-up could introduce some deviations.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 will be released in theatres on 11 June 2027.
