LG To Offer Variable 4K 240Hz & 480Hz Refresh Rates In 2024’s OLED UltraGear Gaming Monitor

Many gamers often find themselves stuck between two choices when picking monitors: a monitor with a high refresh rate, or one with a high resolution. The former are typically for gamers who need that buttery smooth refresh rate to help them stay on target and dome the bad guys, while the latter are for gamers who want to examine every pixel–turning over every stone, and studying every leaf–of the detailed worlds that game developers so artfully craft. LG’s latest announcement may offer a nice third way for the gamer who finds themself desiring the best of both worlds in a single monitor.

LG has just announced a brand new 32-inch monitor for their UltraGear line of gaming monitors which offers some exciting new innovations. For starters, the upcoming LG UltraGear 32GS95UE monitor features a first-of-its-kind feature: hot-switching between two display modes. Users can swap between the high refresh rate mode (FHD 1920 x 1080 at 480Hz) and high-resolution mode (4K 3840 x2160 at 240Hz) through a dedicated button at the bottom of the screen. This feature offers users brand-new functionality: the freedom to swap between clear-as-crystal detail, or blazing-fast refresh rates, on the fly.

The 32GS95UE also hosts an OLED display and what LG has called ‘Pixel Sound Technology.’ The audio tech is an intriguing innovation which produces sound through vibrating film components applied to the display. This allows audio to be channelled directly towards users, as opposed to more conventional arrangements in which monitors have rear-firing or side-firing speakers.

In addition to this new screen, LG have also announced a slew of new products that gamers can look forward to: a curved 21:9 widescreen (WQHD 2440 x 1440) monitor available in 34 and 39-inch variants in the form of the LG UltraGear 34/39GS95QE, two 45-inch curved OLEDs–LG UltraGear 45GS95QE and 45GS96QB–and a 27-inch OLED monitor LG UltraGear 27GS95QE as well. The release dates and prices for these remaining products have yet to be announced.

Considering LG’s exciting new innovations through the 32GS95UE and the comprehensive strengthening of their monitor line-up, LG is signalling an intention to start 2024 strong as we head into CES 2024. While it is always wise to wait for us to see how new technology performs, it seems like LG will be offering some good, if not interesting (at the very least!), gaming monitors in 2024.
