Kenan Thompson And Kel Mitchell Return To ‘Good Burger 2’ After 25 Years

Good Burger, the home of the Good Burger, is back in business! A little more than 25 years after its release, the beloved Nickelodeon movie is getting a sequel at Paramount+, with original stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell set to return.

Good Burger 2

Announced on the latest episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (18 March), it will begin production in May with plans to debut later in 2023. The official logline reads, “Dexter Reed (Thompson) is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed (Mitchell) welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.”

The first film, released in 1997, was based on a sketch of the same name on Nickelodeon’s All That. It went on to gross just under US$24 million against a reported US$8 million budget, establishing itself as a successful box office hit that attained cult status. In 2015, Thompson and Mitchell reunited for a Good Burger sketch on The Tonight Show, expressing that they were keen to explore a new iteration of the movie.

“I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger!” Thompson said in a statement. “Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal! Love performing with my brother Kel and can’t wait to show the fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.”

Good Burger 2 will be directed by Phil Traill of American sitcom The Middle fame, with Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, who co-wrote the original film, returning as writers and executive producers. It also marks the latest Nickelodeon property to get a second lease of life on Paramount+, following in the footsteps of an iCarly revival series, now renewed for a third reason, an updated version of Rugrats, and more.
