Keanu Reeves Keen On ‘John Wick 5’ But Unsure If His Body Can Take It

John Wick star Keanu Reeves has revealed that his age is starting to catch up with him and is unsure if his body can handle a fifth entry in the series.

During an interview with CBS News, the 60-year-old stated that his appearance in future John Wick movies will depend on his health. “You can never say never, my knees right now are saying ‘I can’t do another John Wick‘, so my heart does but I don’t know if my knees can do it,” he explained.

Reeves had previously made a similar statement during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, although he was much more open to the idea of starring in a future John Wick entry back then. “I don’t know, I guess I’m going to have to lean on never say never,” he said when asked about Wick’s return in a future movie. “I mean, I wouldn’t do a John Wick film without Chad Stahelski. We’d have to see what that looked like. For me, it feels really right that John Wick finds peace.”

2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4 ended with Wick’s presumed death after getting shot in the third round of the final duel, seemingly bleeding out on the steps of the Basilica of Sacré Coeur while seeing a vision of his late wife, Helen. As the scene then cuts away from Wick to his gravestone, his fate is left intentionally ambiguous, leading fans to wonder if he might return for a fifth movie.

According to director Chad Stahelski in an interview with Empire, the film originally featured a more concrete ending which revealed that John Wick had survived the duel, but test audiences preferred the eventual ambiguous ending in the final cut. Reportedly, Reeves had wanted his character to be killed off for good, as revealed by franchise producer Basil Iwanyk when speaking to Collider last year.

“After the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th movie, making these films is so exhausting and it destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally,” Iwanyk explained. “By the end, he’s always like, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy is just a shell of himself because he just goes off and goes for it. He was like, ‘I wanna be definitively killed at the end of this movie.’ We were like, ‘You know, we’ll leave a 10% little opening.'”

Maybe it’s time to give Reeves a break then? The action icon certainly deserves it, after all he’s gone through. And with the upcoming spin-off movie Ballerina coming soon next year, maybe someone like Ana de Armas can take his place as Baba Yaga instead.
