Fast & Furious’ Justin Lin To Direct Keanu Reeves-Led ‘BRZRKR’ Adaptation On Netflix

Keanu Reeves is no stranger to playing characters with endless endurance. From Neo in The Matrix to John Wick, the actor has spent decades perfecting the role of an unstoppable force. Now, he’s bringing that energy to the screen once again in a live-action adaptation of his own comic, BRZRKR.

Netflix first announced plans for a BRZRKR movie in 2021, alongside an anime series. Reeves, who co-created the comic with writer Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney, was always expected to take on the lead role, portraying an immortal warrior cursed to fight for centuries. After some time out of the spotlight, the project has taken a major step forward with Fast & Furious director Justin Lin signing on to helm the adaptation, per The Hollywood Reporter.

This won’t be the first time Reeves and Lin have worked together. The actor previously invested in Lin’s independent drama Last Days, but BRZRKR marks their first true collaboration. Lin, who helped shape The Fast and the Furious into a global phenomenon, has a strong history of crafting large-scale, high-stakes action while keeping the human element intact. His ability to blend explosive set pieces with character-driven storytelling should serve BRZRKR well, particularly given its emphasis on the psychological toll of immortality. Given Lin’s track record, it’s possible the streaming giant is eyeing potential sequels as well.

The official synopsis from Netflix and Boom! Studios is as follows:“[BRZRKR is a] brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages. The man known only as ‘B’ is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence, even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge — working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires — the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence … and how to end it.”

Selling over 615,000 copies upon its debut, the BRZRKR comic became one of the highest-selling titles in recent years. Reeves’ involvement as both co-creator and star generated instant buzz, and the story’s high-concept action made it a natural fit for a cinematic adaptation. With Lin now on board, expectations for the film’s scale and intensity have only grown.

Beyond the film, BRZRKR has expanded into other media, including spin-off comics and a novel co-written by Reeves and award-winning author China Miéville. The Book of Elsewhere, released in 2024, explores an alternate universe within the BRZRKR mythos, proving that the franchise has plenty of material to mine.

No release date has been announced, and production details remain under wraps, but the pieces are finally falling into place for BRZRKR to become Reeves’ next major action franchise. Now, all that’s left is to see just how much chaos Reeves’ immortal warrior will unleash when he finally makes his way to Netflix.
