‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Season 2 Trailer Gives First Extended Look At Toji Fushiguro

With the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 focusing on Gojo Satoru’s past, it’s only expected for the fan favourite to be in the spotlight. A new trailer revealed at the MAPPA Stage 2023 event on 21 May promises plenty of that to go around, but the master sorcerer won’t be the only one to shine in the follow-up.

The trailer opens with dialogue from Geto Suguru (Takahiro Sakurai/Lex Lang), who takes up a significant part of the one-minute-and-a-half run time alongside Gojo (Yuichi Nakamura/Kaiji Tang) himself. Fushiguro Toji, a major character in the upcoming arc, gets his first extended appearance, with Riko Amanai, her guardian Kuroi, and the younger versions of Mei Mei and Utahoime Iori making their anime debut here.

Manga readers will recognise a key moment where Toji says, “I killed Satoru Gojo”, prompting Geto to reply, “Is that so? Then die.” The reel then ends with a shot of Geto’s eyes, hinting at his decent into darkness. Playing in the background is a preview of “Ao no Sumika” by Tatsuya Kitani, which serves as the show’s opening theme song.

Alongside the trailer, animation studio MAPPA also unveiled character designs for the Shibuya Incident Arc, the focus for the second part of the season. Joining the main quartet of Itadori Yuji, Fushiguro Megumi, and Kugisaki Nobara are Zeni’n Maki, Inumaki Toge, Gojo, and Nanami Keto, with Okkotsu Yuta missing from the preview. In light of his absence, it’s likely that the show will only adapt up to chapter 137 of the manga, which is when Yuta reappears.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is slated to premiere sometime in July 2023, and will air for two cours (programming blocks that cover roughly three months of episode each). The first covers the Gojo’s Past Arc, where a meeting with Ieiri Shoko (Aya Endō/Ryan Bartley) leads the trio to encounter Toji, the infamous assassin known as the Sorcerer Killer. Newcomer Anna Nagase is voicing Amanai, while Takehito Koyasu will step into the role of Toji.

The Shibuya Incident Arc, meanwhile, is a a direct continuation of the events from the first season, and brings the setting back to the present day of Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara. In it, the main cast is forced to battle against an alliance of cursed spirits and curse users to defend Gojo from being sealed.
