James Bond Project 007 Game In The Works By Hitman Developer IO Interactive

If there were to be a new game based on the James Bond franchise, it would have to be one made by IO Interactive. As it turns out, the Hitman and Kane and Lynch developer is indeed working on one, curiously dubbed Project 007.

While the minute-long teaser trailer above doesn’t reveal much (it’s really just footage of a bullet being loaded into the chamber of a gun), the game’s official website reveals that Project 007 is a “wholly original Bond story”, and serves as the “very first James Bond origin story”.

Hitman 3

“It’s true that once in a while, the stars do align in our industry. Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities. Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio, said IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak in a recent press release.

Currently, the Danish studio is “recruiting elite talent” across the globe to develop the game, meaning it will definitely be a while before we get to see Project 007 in full. That said, given the recent launches of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S, it wouldn’t be far off to assume the game will be coming to those next-gen consoles.

IO’s next installment in the Hitman franchise, Hitman 3, will be launching in January 2021.

Meanwhile, the James Bond franchise lives on in cinemas with the upcoming (and delayed) No Time To Die, starring outgoing 007 Daniel Craig, releasing in April 2021.
