Following the movie adaptation of the Uncharted video game franchise starring Tom Holland (Spider-Man: No Way Home), director Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Zombieland) is now working with Sony on a movie adaptation of Jak and Daxter, according to an interview with Digital Trends.
Jak and Daxter is a video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog. The games are 3D platformers with elements of action, racing, and puzzle-solving. The franchise had its last new game release in 2009, with Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier on the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable.
News about an adaptation has been around since 2013. It is uncertain whether Fleischer’s project is a continuation of that one or a completely new project. What’s known, however, is that Tom Holland is interested in playing Jak should the opportunity arise, according to an interview with GameSpot. Fleischer’s project and Holland’s interest are not linked necessarily, but it does mean that the adaptation could potentially be a second Fleischer-Holland collaboration.
Details surrounding the project remain scarce as Sony has not yet officially announced the film. However, this bodes well for a possible new game for the franchise, since after PlayStation released a Ratchet & Clank animated film in 2016, it led to the game being rebooted for the PlayStation 4. This adaptation could be the revival of a franchise that is well-loved by many.
Uncharted will be in theatres from 18 February 2022, and hopefully, it won’t be long before we get to see Jak and Daxter grace the silver screen too.
