‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ Steers To Fall 2025 Release As ‘GTA 5’ Sales Surpass 200M Units

With the trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 surpassing a record-breaking 90 million views in 24 hours, it’s no wonder that all eyes are on the long-awaited sequel. The wait, however, won’t be that much longer, as publisher Take-Two Interactive has doubled down on its release date: fall 2025.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Release

The news comes from the company’s latest earnings report, revealing a US$2.9 billion loss for the 1 January to 31 March period, and amid rumours of a possible delay into 2026.

“As we enter Fiscal 2025 with positive momentum, we expect to deliver Net Bookings of US$5.55 to US$5.65 billion. Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games’ previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI,” reads the document. “We are highly confident that Rockstar Games will deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience, and our expectations for the commercial impact of the title continue to increase.”

Not much else is known about Grand Theft Auto 6, but it will be set be in modern-day Leonida, a fictionalised version of Florida, and feature the protagonist pair of Lucia and Jason. The title is slated for release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no word on a PC launch just yet.

Alongside the release window update, Take-Two also announced that Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 200 million copies in its lifetime. This milestone places it as the third best-selling title of all time, behind Minecraft and Tetris, which accrued over 300 million (as of October 2023) and 520 million sold copies respectively. In comparison, fellow Rockstar Games darling Red Dead Redemption 2 surpassed a total of 64 million units worldwide.
