It’s been almost 48 hours since Rockstar Games released its first trailer for GTA 6, now amounting to over 103 million views. It’s safe to say the trailer nearly broke the internet, having passed 90 million views within the first day it was released. One thing it did break, though, was a Guinness World Record.
The official Guinness World Records account confirmed in an X post the GTA 6 trailer to be “the most viewed video game reveal on YouTube in 24 hours”.
For context, the video for “most views for a non-music video in 24 hours” was once held by Mr Beast, going at 59.4 million views. The trailer had fallen short for “most YouTube views in 24 hours”, having lagged behind the music video for Butter by BTS. It’s safe to say, that if the number of views for GTA 6’s trailer posted by other gaming news platforms were combined with Rockstar Game’s official YouTube post, it could have easily beat BTS’ record.
The trailer, promising players a return to Vice City, features a male and female protagonist. Parts of it showed scenes referencing various real-life events and people through TikTok-like social media overlays, while Tom Petty’s Love Is A Long Road plays in the background. These snippets are a part of Rockstar’s efforts to mimic life in Miami, Florida (So it’s true that art does imitate real life). Regardless, fans seem to be in for another immersive world of crime and mayhem.
As the trailer revealed, Grand Theft Auto VI is set for a 2025 release, marking a 12-year gap after its predecessor. The game will be released on consoles, namely the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no news of a PC release as of now.
