Honor Magic V5 Foldable Launches In Singapore, Marks Debut Outside China

Honor is kick-starting the global rollout of its latest foldable smartphone, the Honor Magic V5, with its debut occurring on home ground as Singapore will mark the first country to receive the newest device outside of China.

Honor Magic V5

Touted as the world’s slimmest foldable smartphone, the Honor Magic V5 measures a mere 8.8mm when folded and 4.1mm when open, while weighing only 217g (that’s right, it’s 0.1mm thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, but weighs 2g more). According to Honor, this ultra-thin design doesn’t come at the expense of battery life or durability, with the company crediting this engineering feat to its AI-driven manufacturing process.

In terms of hardware, the phone packs a 7.95-inch OLED 2,352 x 2,172 resolution inner screen when unfolded, offering a tablet-like experience built for productivity and multitasking, featuring an AI-powered Three Split Screen feature to ease the juggling of various tasks at once, all while running at a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. While folded, the device remains practical too, with its 6.43-inch OLED 2,376 x 1,060 resolution capable of providing traditional smartphone essentials, all while powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform.

Despite its thin form factor, the device is also built to last, with both screens capable of resisting drops and scratches, with its inner screen made from a proprietary Carbon Fibre-Reinforced display, and its outer screen featuring an anti-scratch Nano-Crystal Shield. Users can also rest easy when it comes to constantly folding the device, as it features the Honor Super Steel Hinge, which provides 2,300MPa of tensile strength to support its weight while maintaining a smooth fold that doesn’t compromise structural integrity. This same durability extends to the phone’s battery capacity, housing a 5,820mAh Honor silicon-carbon battery that utilises the company’s E2 Power Enhanced Chip and SoC voltage regulation to deliver enhanced power efficiency, heat management, and operational safety.

As a returning selling point of many of its devices, the Honor Magic V5 will feature a professional-grade 64MP periscope telephoto camera capable of up to 100x zoom, along with a 50MP wide camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. These lenses work in tandem with the phone’s AI Falcon Camera System, which enhances image processing for better clarity and more accurate colours. This is further supplemented by a suite of AI-powered photography and editing tools like AI Super Zoom, AI Enhanced Portrait, AI Outpainting and AI Eraser, encouraging users to unleash their creativity without third-party apps for all manner of professional shots.
