Henry Cavill To Produce Warhammer 40,000 Animated Series At Amazon

The Warhammer universe is getting another on-screen adaptation, as Amazon MGM Studios is working on a Warhammer 40,000 animated series, with Henry Cavill attached as executive producer.

As reported by Variety, the animated series will serve as a spin-off of the 2024 Amazon animated anthology series Secret Level, which featured a Warhammer 40,000 episode. While details on the series remain under wraps, the show is described as a “long-form story” featuring The Deathwatch, an elite xenos-hunting Space Marine group.

Secret Level wasn’t conceived simply as an anthology. It was designed as a launchpad for larger stories,” said Dave Wilson, who directed the Warhammer 40,000 episode of Secret Level. “The response to the Warhammer episode was extraordinary, particularly from fans who understood how much care went into getting the world right. This series gives us the opportunity to build on that foundation and tell a much larger story. I’ve wanted to tell a long-form story set in Warhammer 40,000 for more than twenty years, and I’m incredibly grateful to Games Workshop and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity to do it.”

Apart from producing the animated show, Cavill will also star in the leading role of the other Warhammer-based project, Amazon’s upcoming live-action series, one which acclaimed horror director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) is in talks to produce, but considering the live-action project is still in its infancy, there’s a chance the animated series may end up debuting first.

Wilson will serve as the show’s co-creator and director alongside John Orloff, with its other executive producers comprising Secret Level creator Tim Miller for Blur Studios, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, and Andy Smillie from Games Workshop. The Warhammer 40,000 series is being developed in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios and Games Workshop, with animation once again being handled by Blur Studios following its work on Secret Level.
