Henry Cavill Hints At ‘Big Things’ For ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Adaptation

Henry Cavill, known for his roles in Man of Steel and The Witcher, is steering a new course with Amazon Studios, diving into the world of Warhammer 40,000 as both star and producer.

Warhammer 40,000, a tabletop miniature wargame by Games Workshop, set in a dystopian sci-fi universe, is poised for adaptation into a television series on Amazon Prime Video. Cavill’s involvement, emerging in the wake of his high-profile departures from previous roles, adds significant clout to the project.

In a recent conversation with Collider, Cavill shared an encouraging update on the Warhammer adaptation. “Warhammer is progressing very well,” he remarked. “Big things are happening, and we are very excited.” This optimism from Cavill, a self-professed lifelong fan of Warhammer 40,000, hints at the substantial progress and potential of the series.

Prime Video, having successfully ventured into fantasy with shows like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, seems well-equipped to handle the complexity and scale of the Warhammer universe. This new series is set to explore the grimdark world of Warhammer 40K, known for its bleak, war-torn settings, moral ambiguity, and rich lore. The universe of Warhammer 40K, spanning millennia, is filled with diverse factions like Space Marines and mechanised orcs, offering a unique blend of science fiction and fantasy.

Previous adaptations of Warhammer 40,000, such as the animated film Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie released in 2010, and the series Angels of Death from 2021, have set precedents but haven’t matched the success of the franchise’s video games. The deal between Amazon and Games Workshop, finalised in December 2023, marks a significant step forward for Cavill’s adaptation, which is currently in pre-production.

Due to Warhammer 40,000‘s expected effects-heavy nature, a release is anticipated no earlier than 2025.
