Henry Cavill’s ‘Highlander’ Reboot To Film In Scotland January 2025

Exciting news for fans of the Highlander saga! The movie, helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski, is scheduled to begin production in January 2025 in Scotland.

Stahelski, known for his action-packed direction in the John Wick series, shared insights into the Highlander pre-production progress in a recent interview with Collider. “We start shooting in January in Scotland, that’s why I go right after I leave. I go to Scotland on Monday to do the final location scout,” Stahelski explained. This aligns with earlier statements hinting at a filming commencement within a year.

The Highlander franchise, which debuted in 1986 with Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, became a cult classic despite its initial box office struggle. It spawned three sequels and two live-action TV series. The reboot, first announced in 2008 and confirmed for production by Lionsgate in 2023, aims to revive the beloved story with a fresh perspective.

Henry Cavill will portray Connor MacLeod, the ageless ‘Highlander’ from the original films. MacLeod is an immortal warrior who must fight others like him in a deadly contest known as the Gathering. The reboot promises to inject new life into the storyline, potentially drawing in a new generation of fans.

The Highlander reboot marks another ambitious project for Cavill, who has recently exited other major roles, including Geralt from The Witcher and Superman in the DC Universe. This new role could spearhead a successful series, revitalising the Highlander franchise with potential for future films.

While the release date is still under wraps, the film is tentatively set for a 2026 debut, promising to deliver a blend of traditional swordplay and modern cinematic elements. Fans of the original will no doubt look forward to seeing how this reboot pays homage to its roots while charting a new course in the Highlander legacy.
