Yup, you heard us right — the recently-launched streaming service, HBO Max, is now an actual team of superheroes under the DC Comics banner.

We know, we’re still scratching our heads.

This was the result of a marketing strategy by WarnerMedia in order to raise more awareness about the streaming service, which launched on 27 May and is currently exclusive to the US, The comic book series, To the Max, introduces three brand-new characters, Hector, Brian, and Olivia. If you haven’t caught on yet, their initials read “HBO”. Figures, huh?

And as for the “Max” part of HBO Max, it gets a little more interesting. A press release states that the trio will eventually meet a dog named Max, after which they will “gain access to different superpowers and become able to teleport, shapeshift, fly and save lives around the world.”

Hello, the Teen Titans just called, and they want their powers back.

The series will feature “Easter Eggs and fun nods” to the 10,000 hours of content available on HBO Max, including Game of Thrones, Friends, and The Big Bang Theory. There are currently three eight-page chapters, each honing in on the individual members of the trio.

In any case, if you’re curious enough to read about this new comic book series, it is now available digitally for free in DC Universe, DCComics.com, Apple iBookstore, the Google Play Store, Kindle, Nook, Hoopla, Overdrive, and in the DC Comics, ComiXology and Madefire apps for iOS and Android.
