‘Harry Potter’ TV Series Sets Warwick Davis’ Return To Hogwarts As Professor Flitwick

A familiar face is returning to Hogwarts. As HBO seeks to recreate the Harry Potter magic with its upcoming TV series, Warwick Davis, who played Filius Flitwick across all eight original films, has been primed to reprise his role for the reboot.

Unlike his previous outings, the star will only portray the Charms professor, with Leigh Gill (Game of Thrones) taking over the character of goblin banker Griphook, whom Davis also brought to life in the film franchise. Filling out the rest of the newly cast staff are Sirine Saba (Doctor Who) as Herbology professor Pomona Sprout, Richard Durden (From Paris with Love) as Professor Cuthbert Binns, and Bríd Brennan (Ferryman) as Madam Poppy Pomfrey.

Moving on to the students, industry newcomer Elijah Oshin joins the roster as half-blood Dean Thomas, alongside Finn Stephens and William Nash as Draco Malfoy’s accomplices, Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle, respectively. This latest wave of casting news comes after announcing the new generation of the Weasley siblings, played by twins Tristan and Gabriel Harland (Fred and George Weasley), Ruari Spooner (Percy Weasley), and Gracie Cochrane (Ginny Weasley).

The quartet accompanies Alastair Stout as Ron, who leads the series with Dominic McLaughlin’s Harry Potter and Arabella Stanton’s Hermione Granger. Production is now underway, with other notable members including John Lithgow (Conclave) as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer (Tumbleweeds) as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu (Gangs of London) as Severus SnapeNick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) as Rubeus Hagrid, Johnny Flynn (Stardust) as Lucius Malfoy, Luke Thallon (The Favourite) as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse (Alice in Wonderland) as Argus Filch, and more.

HBO Harry Potter series

Francesca Gardiner serves as showrunner and executive producer on the Harry Potter series, while executive producer Mark Mylod is set to direct multiple episodes. Original author J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films are all executive producing, but don’t count on original director Chris Columbus to return — the filmmaker previously expressed that he wants no part in the project, citing there’s “nothing left for me to do in the world of Potter.”

“I like sometimes to separate the artist from the art, I think that’s important to do. It’s unfortunate, what’s happened. I certainly don’t agree with what she’s talking about. But it’s just sad, it’s very sad,” he said of Rowling’s controversies.

Filming on the Harry Potter reboot is expected to wrap in Spring 2026. It will hit the small screen in 2027, followed by production on Season 2, due to begin a few months later as part of HBO’s larger plan to adapt each of the seven novels into a season.
