‘Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance’ CGI Animated Opening Revealed

As part of Netflix’s Geeked Week, Gundam fans were treated to a sneak peek of the upcoming animated series Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, set for a 17 October 2024 release.

The nearly five-minute clip offers a glimpse of the series’ gritty tone and intense action. According to Netflix’s summary of the scene, the events occur 11 months into the One Year War, a pivotal conflict within the Gundam lore. The series follows Captain Solari, a Zaku II pilot, as she faces the Earth Federation’s devastating new weapon: the Mobile Suit Gundam.

To bring the iconic mecha battles the Gundam series is known for to life, the series utilises breathtaking CGI animation created using Epic Game’s Unreal Engine 5. This technology pushes animation to the limit and blurs the line between animation and live-action.

The new series marks the franchise’s foray into the full 3D realm, adding an extra layer of realism to the series’ trademark mecha action. The opening scene seems to indicate the show’s focus on both thrilling action sequences, alongside human drama set against a war-torn backdrop.

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is set to begin a new chapter of the Gundam saga on 17 October.
