Superman is turning 80 years old today, on April 18, and Singaporean comics fans can celebrate by purchasing Action Comics Issue #1000!
For those unfamiliar with Superman’s lore, Superman made his first-ever appearance on the cover of Action Comics #1 in 1938, showing his mighty strength by lifting a car over his head. The character, created by Jerry Siegal and Joe Shuster, quickly became a smash hit, and kicked off the superhero trend which is still alive in comic books today.
Despite starring in many Superman comics over the last 8 decades, DC has continued to publish Superman stories under the title Action Comics. After the 2011 reboot, the numbering was restarted, but with DC’s Rebirth event in 2017, the historical numbering for both Action Comics and Detective Comics (which introduced Batman) was restored, leading us to finally reach issue number 1000.
Singaporean artist @artgerm on Twitter posted a variant cover of Action Comics #1000, and it looks fantastic.

The Man of Steel has seen many changes over his long history, but faithful fans will always know him as the hero who started it all. So for Singaporean fans, you can get your hands on this issue for $7.99. Up, up and away!
You could call Jeanne a dabbler – anything she isn’t yet a fan of, she will be eventually. The list of things she’s into is only rivalled by the things she plans on getting into. Overanalysing makes everything fun.
