Get Ready For ‘Civilization VII’ With Free ‘Civilization VI Platinum Edition’ On Netflix Games

Ahead of the release of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII on 11 February, Netflix subscribers can get their 4X fill with Civilization VI Platinum Edition, the mobile version of the 2016 game.

Developer Firaxis Games’ Civilization series belongs to the turn-based, 4X strategy genre, which consists of four gameplay elements, explore, expand, exploit and exterminate. Players take control of a civilisation, each with its unique troops, leaders and playstyle, building up their nation from a sparse village settlement to a sprawling city via interconnected systems like trade, research and engineering.

As the latest game in the franchise so far, Civilization VI has accumulated multiple expansions and ports since its original, including mobile versions for iOS and Android. The Platinum Edition on Netflix takes the foundations of the game’s mobile ports and bundles it with all currently released content updates and its two expansions, Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm. What’s more, this exclusive version also removes all ads and in-app purchases present in its mobile counterparts, which removes monetisation elements such as turn limits.

With Civilization VI now free for Netflix subscribers, there’s no better time to familiarise yourself with its myriad gameplay systems in preparation for the next game in the franchise, Civilization VII, which aims to be the biggest game in the series yet. The forthcoming title is expected to take core gameplay in a bold new direction with the addition of independent leaders and civilisations, introducing unparalleled levels of flexibility to gameplay builds the likes of which the series has never seen before.

Despite its major change in civilisation customisation, the core fundamentals of Civilization VII will remain largely the same. With the streamlined nature of Civilization VI Platinum Edition, players can ease into the complexities of the main game at their leisure with all the benefits of its touch-based handheld format without any in-app limitations.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Platinum Edition is available now and free for Netflix subscribers, while Civilization VII is due to release on 11 February 2025 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
