Geek Preview – JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 3 (Netflix)

Part three of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean is hitting Netflix on 1 December, but lucky for us, we were invited by the global streamer to catch the first two episodes in an exclusive preview in early November in Japan, and boy are viewers in for a ride so bizarre.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 2 concluded with some mysteries revealed, along with protagonist Jolyne Cujoh still in prison but more determined than ever, even as audiences witnessed the growth in power of the antagonist. In Part. 3, we finally see her out of prison, well technically, broken out of prison, with an even stronger thirst to disrupt Father Pucci’s evil plans.

See, Jolyne has achieved her mission in retrieving Jotaro Kujo’s Star Platinum Disc and his Memory Disc, thus saving her father’s withering life, but in standard JoJo fashion, the forces of good do not stop once they’ve completed their original objective. When there is evil in the world, it needs stopping, so Jolyne will not stop at anything to stop Pucci, with the help of Ermes Costello and Emporio Alnino.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Part 2 saw Jolyne lose many friends and allies, but it seems Ermes and Emporio have remained loyal friends and allies. Whether that will be enough and if viewers will see more characters join the fight remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure, Pucci is still on a path of destruction in the third part of the hit anime series, based on the long-running manga of the same name.

Having heard that Jolyne has escaped, the villain scrambles to strengthen his powers. After all, he’s declared a war so he’s going to need as many supporters as he can, and  Jolyne and Pucci aren’t all that we see in the early episodes.

Part 2 of the JoJo series was packed with battles and some of the strangest Stands in the show and Part Three intends to continue that. In the first two episodes, viewers will meet with Anasui and Weather once more, and their travels get a little weird and strange when characters from children’s books begin attempting to aid and befriend them.

Some of these characters from children’s books include the likes of Pinocchio, Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs and the Big Bad Wolf, to name a few, and they will attempt to lure Anasui and Weather on a “story” that as the episode later reveals, may not necessarily end in a happily ever after. Oh, and they’re strange looking too.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

In true JoJo fashion, these well-known children’s book characters are unique looking, so it’s definitely not the cute Pinocchio you’ve grown up watching on Disney, or in any other form you can imagine. And when they realise that their plan to lure and manipulate Anasui and Weather aren’t working, things quickly take a violent turn.

It doesn’t take long for the characters – and for viewers – to learn that these are someone’s Stands, so a fight ensues. Viewers will only learn who the User is towards the end of the episode, but the journey towards the reveal was fun, creepy and death-defying, and just how we like it!

Thus far, the early episodes are gearing viewers up for the eventual battle between Jolyne and Pucci, though it seems like that’s only likely going to happen towards the end of the season. This is because much of the first two episodes places a bigger focus on  Anasui and Weather, rather than Jolyne herself.

Of course, we won’t spoil it for you any further, but if Part Two had you on the edge of your seat already, then you’re strapped in for a ride in Part Three when JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 3 releases on 1 December on Netflix.
