Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the sequel to the successful 2023 film adaptation of the popular horror game, has released its official trailer, shortly before a San Diego Comic-Con 2025 panel revealed further details about the project.
The trailer depicts a group of teens, including McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters franchise) and Teo Briones (Final Destination Bloodlines), filming a paranormal activity web show at the original Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza location, when something unseen, The Marionette, attacks them. A year has elapsed since the incident, and the former security guard, Mike (Josh Hutcherson, The Hunger Games franchise) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail, Once Upon a Time) have withheld the truth from Mike’s little sister, Abby (Piper Rubio, For All Mankind), about what happened to her frightful animatronic friends.
But when the animatronics reach out to Abby, leading her to sneak out of the house to join up with them, Mike and Vanessa will have to rescue her while navigating a terrifying series of events that will reveal the dark origin of Freddy’s and threaten to unleash an ancient nightmare upon the world.

Director Emma Tammi (The Wind), who also spearheaded the first film, teased that the upcoming film would feature “more than three times as many animatronics” as its predecessor. Tammi commented on their choice of robotics over computer graphics for the film’s robots, saying, “We really wanted to make the electronics feel and move as practically as possible, versus the CG route, which is also incredible, but it just didn’t feel right for the nostalgia that Freddy’s invokes.”
She then continued, speaking highly about the film’s partnership with the Jim Henson Company for the robots, “We met with the Henson team, and they totally got that. They obviously have been doing that for decades, masterfully. On top of that, they really recognised that Freddy’s had this huge fan base, and that the designs from the game were really important.”

With the first film grossing US$297 million at the global box office and satisfied ratings from fans of the horror game series, scoring 86 per cent on the Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, the upcoming movie looks set to be just as popular as the first. But don’t be too thrilled just yet, Freddy might be right around the corner.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will leap out into theatres on 5 December 2025.
