Ever since The Last of Us premiered its first season back in 2023, the series has been well-received by fans, who have been eagerly anticipating Season 2, which boasts a stacked cast roster. Filming began in British Columbia in February 2024, with Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), who plays Joel Miller, wrapping up his scenes just a month in. Now, we finally have a first look with two new stills of father-daughter duo Joel and Ellie (Bella Ramsey).
It looks like we’ll have plenty of flashback scenes in-between the time skip that Season 2, which follows The Last of Us: Part II will have, fleshing out the five-year gap. But what we haven’t seen is post-time skip Ellie’s look, which the show is probably saving for a trailer reveal.
From the lights in the scene, it’s likely that Joel’s appearance here is during the Jackson party, when he attempts to be a protective father to Ellie, despite their estranged relationship. Pascal’s Joel looks strikingly similar to the way he looks in the games, though Pascal pulls it off effortlessly.
The Last of Us Season 2 is expected to return sometime in 2025, or 2026, at the latest, but rest assured, we’ll be seeing plenty of Joel before the inevitable happens.
