Facebook Launches Blood Donation Feature In Singapore

In honour of World Blood Donor Day this year, Facebook Singapore has introduced a new feature on their platform that can save lives….literally.

The new Blood Donations function, rolled out in partnership with the Singapore Red Cross, informs users of any blood donation opportunities on a particular date or at a specific location around their area of residence.

“Every day, we see how people in Singapore come together on our platforms to support each other and help their local communities – whether it’s through Facebook groups, small businesses on WhatsApp, or social causes on Instagram,” said Damian Kim, Country Director of Facebook Singapore.

Those interested in signing up may receive notifications about donating blood on Facebook by going to Blood Donations in the About section of their profile. When donors are needed a notification will be sent out to those who are nearby. Patrons can also see requests and opportunities to donate through Facebook’s Donate Blood page.

Furthermore, Blood Banks are also encouraged to share their blood mobile drives via Facebook Events to increase the awareness to potential donors nearby.

The addition sure comes as a surprise, but there’s no denying its usefulness. Apart from offering the opportunity for individuals to give back to the community, the feature increases the efficiency of the blood donation process as well, which will definitely come in handy during emergency cases or urgent medical calls for blood.
