Emmys 2024 Recap: ‘Shogun’ Sets Record With 18 Wins & Full Winners List

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards 2024 celebrated a host of television’s finest, with Shōgun and The Bear leading the pack. Disney+‘s Shōgun emerged as the standout of the evening, securing a total of 18 Emmy wins across both the Creative Arts Emmys and the Primetime Emmy Awards. The Bear also impressed, garnering 11 awards.

Shōgun not only clinched the award for Outstanding Drama Series but also set a new record for the most wins in a single season, surpassing the previous record held by HBO’s mini-series John Adams. This achievement is particularly notable as Shōgun, a show with approximately 70% of its dialogue in Japanese, represents a significant breakthrough for foreign-language series at the Emmys.

Meanwhile, the comedy series awards brought some surprises, with HBO’s Hacks outpacing last year’s favourite, The Bear, to win Outstanding Comedy Series. Hacks also saw its creators Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky triumph in the Best Writing for a Comedy Series category.

Despite not securing the top comedy prize, The Bear did not leave empty-handed. Jeremy Allen White was honoured with his second consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach repeated his win for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy. Liza Colón-Zayas also celebrated her first Emmy win for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy.

In the limited series or anthology series categories, Baby Reindeer won outstanding series, with Richard Gadd receiving the lead actor award and Jodie Foster being honoured as the lead actress for her role in True Detective: Night Country. The full list of winners is as follows:
