At the 75th Emmy Awards, HBO’s Succession and FX’s The Bear emerged as the top shows, each securing six awards including Outstanding Drama and Comedy Series, respectively. Netflix’s Beef followed closely, scooping up five trophies, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
The ceremony saw a range of first-time winners, including Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri from The Bear, and Steven Yeun and Ali Wong for Beef. A highlight of the evening was Elton John joining the prestigious EGOT club, as he received an Emmy for outstanding variety special for Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium. This win added to his already impressive collection of a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony.
The event, hosted by Anthony Anderson of black-ish fame, was marked by a sense of nostalgia and broadcast live on Fox, with availability on Hulu starting Tuesday.
Initially slated for September, the Emmy Awards were postponed due to the simultaneous Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes. The Writers Guild of America reached a settlement with entertainment companies in September, and SAG-AFTRA, representing a vast number of actors, followed in November. These agreements ultimately paved the way for the awards show to proceed.
