It’s been a while since Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp made waves in the hearts of moviegoers as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean, especially when his partnership with Disney ended during his legal battle against Amber Heard. No doubt, fans were gutted when plans for a franchise reboot surfaced and Depp was not in the picture.
It seems this boat would soon change its course.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is allegedly supervising two scripts for a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot and one involves the captain’s return. According to a report by Variety, the possibility of Depp’s return “has not been ruled out”, and his involvement will possibly determine the direction of the franchise’s next entry.
It’s optimistic to hope Johnny Depp will return as Jack Sparrow in a new Pirates movie. Indeed, Disney can simply approach the Edward Scissorhands actor to star in the reboot with a polite invitation (hopefully accompanied by an apology), but fans should not bet on it. Just look to the outing of Jonathan Majors as an example. Assault allegations against him were recently dropped, and Disney has yet to request his reprisal as Kang.
Regardless, a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie is on its way and all we can hope for is a smoother voyage for the franchise.
