Disney Parks Kills Free FastPass Service; Replaces With US$15 Disney Genie+ ‘Upgrade’

Disneyland and Disney World are putting a stop to their free FastPass service and are releasing an all-new complementary app calledDisney Genie‘.

Disney Genie is a new digital service designed to help Disney Parks guests plan their visit, as well as provide tips and guides on how to have the best Disney Park experience. The app also includes a personalised itinerary feature that will map out an entire day for guests from specific attractions, food and entertainment experiences to general interests like Disney Princesses, Villains, Pixar, Star Wars and more.

Whilst a free app, there are certain upgrades that guests can pay for access to Disney Genie+ to receive a different experience. Now that Disney is replacing their free FastPass service for ‘Lightning Lane’ entry to rides and attractions, guests will need access to Disney Genie+ if they would like to be part of Lightning Lane and avoid long waiting times.

All it takes is an additional US$15 per ticket per day at Disney World and US$20 per ticket per day at Disneyland. Lightning Lane allows parkgoers to choose when to arrive at their rides, experiences, and attractions and provides them with the flexibility to visit as many rides as they’d like. Traditional standby and virtual queues will still continue to exist, but we all know that nothing beats the feeling of skipping a queue and heading straight to the ride.

Prices will vary by date, attraction, and park, and will be shared closer to launch, Disney says. In addition, Disney Genie+ will also give guests unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads at Disneyland Resort.

Disney Genie is built into the current My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps and is expected to be available by Fall.
