‘Dexter’ Prequel Series Casts ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Patrick Dempsey

The Dexter prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, already has a number of cameos from characters of the existing show, and it’s adding a new, but familiar star, Patrick Dempsey, most known for playing Derek Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy, as Aaron Spencer, Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide Department.

His character has a close dynamic with Harry Morgan (Christian Slater), Dexter’s father, and the duo have known each other for over a decade. And with Dexter entering the Miami Metro Police Department, it’ll be interesting to see how these characters interact.

“Patrick Dempsey is a beloved actor who is internationally known for the iconic characters he has played and his performances,” says Paramount Global co-CEO Chris McCarthy. “We are thrilled to have him join our all-star cast of Dexter: Original Sin, the highly anticipated origin story of the franchise.”

Dexter: Original Sin is set in 1991, 15 years before the events of the main series, and sees a young Dexter’s (Patrick Gibson) transition from student to avenging serial killer. The series also stars Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, and Reno Wilson.
