Play as a cute possessed lamb on a satanic mission to amass a flock of woodland worshippers in Devolver Digital‘s upcoming action roguelike Cult of the Lamb, with the help of a few friends along the way.
These friends will be pretty familiar to gamers. Dice-playing friend? Check. Tarot card reader? Yup. Arms vendor? Of course. Slave vendors? Certainly. Fisherman, like a fishing minigame? Yes, why not.
The game feels like a combination of cult hits, taking elements fromThe Binding of Isaac, Hades and Don’t Starve, but giving its own unique spin on what is possibly a well-trodden genre in recent years. The cutesy graphics help detract from the bloody cult-building business.
There are elements of real-time action gameplay combined with a base-building segment where you manage your flock of worshippers and how happy they are with your rule. If they stray from your path, you can either reconvert them or sacrifice them. The power is in your hands.
Good thing is, there’s a demo version of the game available now on Steam to check out before you decide whether to join the Cult of the Lamb. The main storyline is expected to have 15 hours of game time, with possibly more hours if you intend to explore and convert everything.
The game description reads:
“Cult of the Lamb casts players in the role of a possessed lamb saved from annihilation by an ominous stranger, and must repay their debt by building a loyal following in his name. Start your own cult in a land of false prophets, venturing out into diverse and mysterious regions to build a loyal community of woodland Followers and spread your Word to become the one true cult.”
Pre-ordering Cult of the Lamb now gives you access to the Cthulhu follower skin when the game releases on 11 August 2022 for the PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox.
