New ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Trailer Teases Epic Sabretooth Showdown

Marvel enthusiasts, brace yourselves! The forthcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film promises a rollercoaster of action and nostalgia, as it brings back iconic X-Men characters, including a much-anticipated cameo from Wolverine’s arch-nemesis, Sabretooth.

A recent Deadpool & Wolverine trailer unveiled on Friday re-introduces Sabretooth, portrayed once again by Tyler Mane, who famously depicted the character in the 2000 X-Men film. In an electrifying scene from the trailer, Sabretooth confronts Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine with a menacing, “Ready to die?!”

Sabretooth’s return marks a significant callback to the duo’s first on-screen encounter over two decades ago in Bryan Singer’s X-Men (2000). While Tyler Mane hasn’t reprised the role since, his portrayal remains a pivotal part of the Wolverine saga. Liev Schreiber took over the role in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, ever the comic relief, momentarily interrupts the tension to rid Wolverine of various embedded weapons, commenting on the long-awaited showdown: “You look ridiculous,” followed by, “People have waited decades for this fight. It’s not going to be easy.”

In the recent trailer, the buildup to their confrontation is palpable, with Reynolds’ Deadpool humorously extracting CGI swords from Wolverine’s body as they prepare for the clash. The trailer cuts just as Wolverine and Sabretooth charge towards each other, heightening anticipation for their epic battle.

Interestingly, set photos leaked last December hinted at the scale of their confrontation, with one image showing Deadpool holding Sabretooth’s severed head, indicating a potentially grim end for the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Deadpool & Wolverine is set after the events of 2018’s Deadpool 2, with Wade Wilson (Reynolds) retired and selling used cars. His life takes a dramatic turn when the Time Variance Authority (TVA) plucks him from his mundane existence, tasking him with a mission that involves teaming up with an alternate-universe Wolverine. The film also sees the return of familiar characters from previous Deadpool films, including Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand).

As the only MCU movie of 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled for release on 26 July.
