Cygames’ Japan-Exclusive RPG ‘Granblue Fantasy’ Lands Worldwide Release With English PC Version In 2026

More than a decade after its initial release in 2014, Cygames will be making it easier for fans to play the original Granblue Fantasy outside of Japan, as an English PC version of the RPG will be making its way to Steam in 2026.

As announced via the studio’s social media pages, Granblue Fantasy is “scheduled to release the Steam version for overseas audiences”, which will launch on 10 March 2026. This version will be an independent one, however, and separate from the current browser-based and mobile version, meaning that existing accounts will not be compatible upon its launch, with no account linking options available.

Despite launching exclusively in Japan in 2014, the game was technically still available to worldwide audiences through unofficial means, such as using VPN services to access the game’s client or downloading an APK file online to play on mobile devices. Furthermore, the original Japanese client already has an English-language option, so even though this new global release might be good news for those looking to pick up the game officially, it also poses the potential downside of fracturing its existing player base.

The game won’t be a simple port of the current mobile versions, however, as Cygames will also overhaul its layout to fit 16:9 screens, making its menu-heavy systems much easier to interact with for modern desktop users.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink (2024)

While the original game has been mostly region-locked until now, the series has spawned several sequels and spin-offs available to the global audience, including two fighting games, 2020’s Granblue Fantasy Versus and 2023’s Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, alongside a modern JRPG in 2024 titled Granblue Fantasy: Relink, making it easier for fans to now experience the entire franchise no matter where they are in the world.

Granblue Fantasy will launch as a separate, independent release on PC via Steam on 10 March 2026.
